Do the 'pastors' share some of the responsibility for americas descent into religious madness?

All fundamentalists take the written word of their holy books as the words of their god(s). It doesn't matter if the words don't make any sense. From what I have seen, most of them don't have the education to give out any advice, except how to make money.
