Need help with truck not starting?

I have a 1987 f150 and a brand new alternator and and a good battery. The truck will start but when I go back to start it, it wont turnover and it sounds like the battery is dead and the battery cables are hot. I had everything checked out and there saying its all ok. I don't know what to do I need help.
