How do I find out if Kenneth E. Stanley Jr is really dead?

If he was shot in the line of duty, that means he was working as a police officer and was on duty at the time he was shot. If this was the case, then I'm guessing there would be something in the news/paper about his death. If you know what police department he works for you can call them to see if they have had any recent officers killed in the line of duty.
