When I logon I get 'cannot get update from egis server, please retry later' message; what does this mean?

Hi I am sorry to hijack this but I have the same problem with my Acer 1410 and I am not trying to log into anything, the message keeps coming up and I can't close it. I have no one to call as it's a home PC. Any ideas??
