I really want to be a Japanese exchange student!?

My parents will not let me be an exchange student in Japan. I don't know a whole lotta japanese, but enough to get me around. So my mom says that it's too dangerous to go out of the country, which is an acceptable answer, but other people do it, so why not me? Any ideas as to how I can convince her?
